SearchIt
SearchIt has a straight forward interface the first screen will allow you to type in a search term and either hit ENTER or click the Search button.

You can cycle through the different sites pressing the Menu (BB) button, you can also set the menu button to bring up the complete list of sites, you can change this in the Options screen. The icon will change to show which site is currently selected. To paste text from the clipboard press SPACE 3 times. Your recent searches are also saved, you can bring those up by pressing ENTER or clicking the Search icon (searchbar must not have any text in it for this to show up). To view a list of all sites click “Search Using”, you can click which site to use and then you will be brought back to the main screen.
Scrolling to the bottom of this screen you will find “Options”.
Show Categories – This shows/hides the category headings when scrolling through the site list. Add to system menu - This will add a "SearchIt" menu option to all menus. When you select text in another application (ie Messages, SMS, BBM etc) clicking "SearchIt" from the menu will automatically add the highlighted text to the search bar like so:
Use Suggestions - Turn on or off live suggestions as you type Default Search – This will be the site that SearchIt will start with automatically run. Browser to use - SearchIt can launch the default BlackBerry Browser, Bolt Browser or Opera Mini version 5. Menu Button - "Quick" is the default setting when on the search screen to rotate through the search sites, "Full" brings up the full list of sites. Show Sites – Allows you to remove sites from the site list that you do not want. Custom Search – This allows you to enter in a site not included, enter in a name and the search URL and it will be added to the list. See below for instructions. Registration – If applicable enter your registration code here. Custom Sites: The search address of a site must include the search string as part of the URL. To simplify: http://www.google.com would NOT work, the complete Google URL with search string looks like this: http://www.google.com/m/search?q= To find the search string you can either do it through the BlackBerry web browser on or on your computer. In this example we will use the BlackBerry browser. Launch the browser and visit the site you wish to add. We will be using flickr for this example. The mobile site for flickr is http://m.flickr.com Once on the site enter some text into the search box and click the search button , in this case “text” or tags”
From the results screen bring up the browser menu and select “Page Address” The URL that is returned looks like this: http://m.flickr.com/search/?q=testing&sig=&s=&m=text The part that we want is before our search word, so http://m.flickr.com/search/?q= is our search URL that you can enter into SearchIt. |
